Brush clearing removes the palmetto, gallberry, vines, and saplings that choke out a North Florida property, while the pines and oaks you want to keep stay put. Swamp Gator ULM does it with a forestry mulcher, which grinds the brush where it stands and leaves a layer of mulch on the ground. Nothing gets piled, burned, or hauled off.
Most brush clearing calls in Baker, Columbia, and Duval counties come down to one of three jobs. Underbrushing thins out the growth under a stand of trees. Full brush clearing takes a lot or tract down to open ground. Brush hogging mows grass, weeds, and young saplings on a field or pasture before it turns back into woods. Steve walks the property first and tells you which one your land actually needs.

Every property is a little different, but most brush clearing jobs around Sanderson, Lake City, and Jacksonville look like one of these.
Underbrushing clears the thick growth under your trees and leaves the trees standing. The mulcher head works between the trunks, taking out palmetto, gallberry, wax myrtle, and saplings. You end up with an open, walkable stand of pines or oaks, less fuel on the ground for a wildfire, and a view back into your own woods.
When the whole lot needs opening up, Steve mulches everything down to ground level. That covers inherited acreage nobody has touched in years, a homesite you're getting ready to build on, or a back field that grew into a thicket. The mulch stays on the ground as cover, so bare sand doesn't wash out with the first summer storm.
Bush hogging cuts grass, weeds, dog fennel, and young saplings across open ground. It's the right call for a pasture or field that's been let go a season or two, before the woody growth gets big enough to need a mulcher. Keeping a field brush hogged costs far less than paying to clear it again later.
Brush and vines grow up through fence wire fast in North Florida. Steve clears a strip along the fence line so you can see your property line, repair the fence, or put a new one in without fighting through the growth first.
A cleared lane around your home or along a property line gives a wildfire less to burn and gives a truck a way in. Rural landowners in Baker and Union counties usually want one in place before the spring dry season.
Hunting camps, timber tracts, and back acreage often need a lane cut through the woods to reach a stand, a gate, or the far corner of the property. The mulcher cuts the path and leaves a mulch bed you can walk or drive on.
The right method depends on what's growing and what you want the land to do next. Picking the wrong one is how landowners end up paying for the same acre twice.
If you want to keep your trees, you need underbrushing. A brush hog can't get between trunks, and full clearing takes the trees down with everything else. Underbrushing is the only one of the three that thins the understory and leaves the canopy alone.
If it's mostly grass and weeds, a brush hog is enough. Once saplings get thicker than a couple of inches, a brush hog starts bouncing off them instead of cutting. At that point the field needs the mulcher, and waiting another year only makes the job bigger.
If you plan to build, mulching is only the first step. Palmetto is the plant that surprises people here. One pass with the mulcher removes everything above ground, but the root mat underneath stays put. That's fine for land you want open and usable. A house pad or driveway needs that ground cleared and graded afterward, which is land clearing work. Steve tells you on the walk-through if your project crosses that line, so the quote covers the right job.
Swamp Gator ULM runs a forestry mulcher head on a heavy excavator for brush clearing and underbrushing. The excavator's reach lets Steve work the mulcher between trees and along fence lines without driving over ground you want left alone. It handles brush and saplings up to roughly 8 to 10 inches thick and grinds them into mulch where they stand.
For open pasture and field mowing, a brush hog covers ground faster and costs less to run. Steve matches the machine to the job instead of sending the biggest one every time.

Swamp Gator ULM is a one-operator brush clearing company. The person who quotes your job is the person running the machine on your land.
Steve runs the machine. No subcontractors and no rotating crew. Steve McMichael walks your property, writes the quote, and runs the mulcher. He already knows which trees you want kept before the first pass.
The written quote holds. The number on paper is the number you pay unless you change what you want done. No add-ons once the equipment is on your land.
The brush stays on your land as mulch. Forestry mulching leaves nothing to haul and no burn pile to babysit. The mulch layer holds sandy soil in place and breaks down over time.
Scheduling that moves. Once you approve the quote, Steve can typically start within 24 to 72 hours when he isn't already booked. That window is when work begins, not when it wraps up, and you get a realistic timeline for your acreage up front.
Straight answers on scope. If your land needs more than brush clearing, Steve says so on the walk-through instead of quoting a job that won't get you where you're headed.
